Adolph Kolping

Modern Ideas – from over 150 years ago

The idea of Adolph Kolping (1813-1865) is based on a Christian social doctrine – and is more relevant today than ever: the promotion of the whole person through education and personal development. Kolping wanted social change through a positive change in the individual.

It was here that Adolph Kolping founded his first journeyman’s house in 1862. Even today, the idea and task of supporting young people during their training is current and contemporary. Young people who find their training place far away from home find a partner in the Kolping youth hostels who encourages and supports them.

It is the task of the Kolping Society and its institutions to make this idea a reality. The basis for this are the more than 2,600 Kolping families in Germany with more than 270,000 members. The Kolping Society can be found in more than 60 countries worldwide. Around 500,000 people are involved in the International Kolping Society.
